More Than Caravans: The Stories, Friendships and Memories That Made the 2026 Retreat National Rally Unforgettable

There are caravan rallies, and then there are Retreat Rallies.

The difference becomes obvious within minutes of arriving.

It starts with a wave from a familiar face across the campground. Then comes a handshake, a hug, a coffee, and before long you’re standing around swapping stories with people who only a few years ago were complete strangers.

By the end of the week, they’re family.

In May, more than 100 Retreat owners from across Australia gathered at the beautiful BIG4 Dunsborough Southern Stars Holiday Park in Western Australia for the 5th Retreat Caravans National Rally.

For seven unforgettable days, the park transformed into a sea of Retreat caravans, laughter echoed through the campground, and friendships old and new were celebrated under the South West skies.

It was a week filled with adventure, generosity, storytelling, incredible food, live entertainment and the kind of camaraderie that makes the Retreat community so unique.

And according to many who attended, it may just have been the best Rally yet.

A Gathering of the Retreat Family

What makes the National Rally special isn’t the location.

It isn’t the prizes.

It isn’t even the caravans.

It’s the people.

Owners travelled from all corners of Australia to be there. Some had driven thousands of kilometres. Others planned their entire annual travel itinerary around the event.

A-Gathering-of-the-Retreat-Family

For many, the Rally has become a permanent fixture on the calendar.

It’s the one week each year where everyone comes together to reconnect with old friends, welcome newcomers and share the stories that brought them into the Retreat family.

And every Retreater has a story.

For some, their caravan journey began after retirement, finally allowing them to explore Australia after years of hard work.

For others, life threw unexpected challenges their way. Health scares, major surgeries, personal setbacks and difficult seasons became the catalyst to start living life differently.

Many shared stories of second chances, of deciding not to wait any longer to chase adventures, create memories and see the country with the people they love.

Around campfires, over meals and during the countless conversations that unfolded throughout the week, these stories became the heartbeat of the Rally.

Because while every Retreat caravan may look different, the reasons people travel are often remarkably similar.

Freedom.

Connection.

Adventure.

And making the most of every day.

The Legendary Wine Tour

Of course, no Retreat Rally would be complete without a little friendly chaos.

One of the most talked-about traditions throughout the week was the famous evening wine tour.

Each night, around 40 caravan owners would gather and travel from van to van, with different hosts opening their doors, providing drinks, snacks and hospitality along the way.

The concept sounds simple.

The reality is something entirely different.

Every caravan stop had its own personality. Some hosts produced elaborate grazing platters. Others showcased local wines. There were stories, jokes, laughter and enough conversation to fill an entire podcast series.

By the fourth van of the evening, however, details became somewhat less reliable.

As one attendee joked, “After Van Four, my vision was definitely getting a little blurry.”

Yet those evenings perfectly captured the spirit of the Rally.

Nobody cared where you came from.

Nobody cared what caravan model you owned.

Everyone was simply enjoying each other’s company.

And in a world that often feels increasingly disconnected, that sense of community is something truly special.

New Models, New Technology and New Dreams

While the Rally is ultimately about people, the caravans still generated plenty of excitement.

Luxury RVs WA, Retreat’s Western Australian dealership, brought along several stunning 2026 models for attendees to inspect throughout the week.

Luke Bell, his family and the entire Luxury RVs WA team were on hand to answer questions, showcase the latest innovations and share their passion for the Retreat brand.

The new models quickly became a major talking point around the campground.

Owners wandered through the vans, comparing layouts, admiring new features and discussing future upgrades.

In fact, one attendee was so impressed by what they saw that they traded their existing Retreat and upgraded to a brand-new ERV during the Rally.

Not a bad impulse purchase.

The latest generation of Retreat caravans sparked countless conversations and reminded everyone just how far the brand has evolved while maintaining the values that have made it so respected within the industry.

Raising Money for a Cause That Matters

While there was plenty of fun throughout the week, there was also a deeper purpose behind the Rally.

For many years, the Retreat family has proudly supported the Cancer Council through fundraising initiatives conducted during Rally events.

This year was no exception.

Through the generosity of attendees, raffle ticket sales and community support, an incredible $13,404.19 was raised for the Cancer Council.

The achievement was celebrated with a special presentation during the Rally and served as a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together for a meaningful cause.

Even more remarkable is the cumulative impact.

Across all Retreat National Rallies, nearly $100,000 has now been raised for cancer research and support services.

That figure represents far more than a donation.

It represents hope.

It represents generosity.

And it reflects the values that define the Retreat family.

The People Behind the Magic

Events like this don’t happen by accident.

Long before the first caravan arrived in Dunsborough, countless hours had already been invested behind the scenes.

Leading that effort were Rally hosts Lyn and Phil.

For almost twelve months, they worked tirelessly to organise activities, coordinate logistics, communicate with attendees and ensure every detail was taken care of.

It’s easy to overlook just how much work goes into an event of this scale.

Yet throughout the week, their passion, commitment and attention to detail were evident everywhere.

From the smooth organisation to the welcoming atmosphere, their efforts helped create an experience that attendees will remember for years to come.

The Retreat community owes them a tremendous thank you.

Dometic Delivers Again

A special mention must also go to Dometic, whose support helped elevate the event to another level.

Not only did Dometic generously contribute prizes throughout the Rally, but they also sent one of their most valuable resources, Sean, to spend time with attendees.

His presentation and question-and-answer session quickly became one of the standout moments of the week.

Owners had the opportunity to gain valuable insights, ask technical questions and learn more about the products many of them use every day while travelling Australia.

The session was informative, engaging and incredibly well received.

The support of partners like Dometic continues to strengthen the Rally experience and demonstrates the strong relationships that exist throughout the Retreat community.

The Moments That Matter Most

Ask ten attendees about their favourite memory and you’ll probably receive ten different answers.

Some will talk about the live music and dancing.

Others will mention the incredible food.

Many will remember the raffle prizes.

Some will laugh about the wine tours.

Others will reflect on the friendships they strengthened throughout the week.

The-Moments-That-Matter-Most

But perhaps the most memorable moments weren’t found on the official schedule at all.

They happened around campfires.

Over morning coffees.

While helping a fellow traveller.

While sharing stories from the road.

Or simply sitting under an awning watching another West Australian sunset.

Those are the moments that can’t be planned.

They’re the moments that become the stories people tell long after the Rally ends.

Already Looking Forward to the Next One

As the week drew to a close and caravans began rolling out of Dunsborough, there was a familiar feeling among attendees.

Nobody wanted it to end.

The hugs got longer.

The goodbyes became harder.

And conversations quickly shifted from memories of this Rally to plans for the next one.

Because that’s the thing about the Retreat National Rally.

You arrive expecting a caravan event.

You leave with something much more valuable.

You leave with friendships.

You leave with memories.

You leave feeling connected to a community that genuinely cares about one another.

Until Next Time

The 2026 Retreat National Rally wasn’t simply a gathering of caravan owners.

It was a celebration of adventure.

A celebration of resilience.

A celebration of friendship.

And above all, a celebration of the remarkable people who make up the Retreat family.

More than 100 owners travelled from across Australia to share a week together in Dunsborough.

They arrived as travellers.

They left as friends.

And together they raised more than $13,000 for a cause that touches so many Australian families.

Not bad for a group brought together by a shared love of caravanning.

Until next year, safe travels, enjoy the journey, and keep creating memories worth sharing.

And if you attended the Rally, we’d love to hear from you.

What was your favourite memory from the week?
