What is the easiest food to cook when camping?

Camping in the great outdoors is one of the most exhilarating experiences you can enjoy in this amazing country of ours.

One of the things that can make this experience even more enjoyable is cooking food that we normally might not eat.

When camping, there is always a trade-off between what we really want to eat, and whats practical based on what cooking facilities are available and our ability to stock food.

In a lot of cases, less is most certainly more when it comes to choosing the ideal foods to cook and eat on your camping trip.

However, this does not mean that simple cuisine cannot be tasty too.

Following is 6 mouth-watering dishes that are ideally designed to be cooked on your next camping trip:

1. The Breakfast Burger

This tasty burger can be served up for breakfast, lunch or supper. Simply place a previously cooked burger patty on a bun with a pan-fried egg and a slice of cheese.

Wrap in foil and place on the barbecue for 10 minutes while turning to prevent burning.

You can add a slice of tomato or some sauteed onions to give the breakfast burger that additional flavour.

If you are able to get your hands on some sachets of mayonnaise or tomato sauce, then this will help to complete a delicious and easy meal.

2. Soul Soup

Soup from a can is perhaps the easiest camping food imaginable, however, it can be flavourless and boring unless you spruce it up with some tasty ingredients of your own.

Simply choose a can of your favourite soup and add the ingredients that it would naturally contain.

For example, for vegetable soup, add some veggies that you have already chopped up and cooked at home.

Keep some leftover roast chicken aside to add flavour to your canned chicken soup.

Some toasted bread for croutons or a little barley/beans that have already been cooked is a great way to add extra texture and sustenance to your canned soup.

3. Fully Loaded Potatoes

A jacket potato placed in foil and cooked on open flames is tasty on its own and is always a smash hit, especially for kids.

All you need to do is add a selection of salad ingredients and your favourite protein for a delectable fully loaded potato.

Canned tuna is a great addition as is a slice or two of your favourite cheese.

A couple of slices of avocado and tomato can turn this into the ideal nutritious meal on warm summer days.

Precooked bacon bits, caramelised onions and cheese are another good combo for a fully loaded potato.

Swap out your regular potatoes for a sweet potato for an even healthier and tastier meal.

4. Pancakes

Pancakes are the ideal camping treat for the sweet tooth and are perfect as a breakfast or dessert.

Simply take along a ready pancake mix and add the required amount of water.

The pancakes can be fried up in a pan heated over your barbecue or a gas cooker.

Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over each pancake and layer them to allow the sugar to melt into a tasty syrup.

Take along some dessert toppings to upgrade your pancakes to a delicious, creamy dessert.

5. Skewers

Just about any food cooked on a skewer over a barbecue is ideal for camping.

Skewered beef, lamb or chicken cubes interspersed with some veggies are a great way to get a flavour-packed meal that is full of nutrition.

The best vegetables to cook on a skewer include zucchini, capsicum, onions, carrots or any other hardy vegetable that won’t disintegrate and fall off the stick.

Damper on a skewer is another favourite camping food. Simply take along your ready mixed damper dough and twist onto a skewer.

Place on the barbecue grill and turn regularly until cooked.

6. Marshmallow Sandwiches

Last but not least, what would camping be without toasting some marshmallows over an open flame.

Take along some biscuits and place your melted, gooey marshmallow between two biscuits and you have the ideal dessert treat.

Chocolate covered biscuits are ideal as the hot marshmallow will melt the chocolate for an even yummier after dinner snack.

The trick to having tasty meals that are simple to cook on your camping trip is planning ahead.

Cooking as little as possible while you are out enjoying all that Mother Nature has to offer makes things so much easier.

If you simply just need to heat up your food rather than prepare it from scratch, you will not only save time but make it will make your camping trip as hassle-free as possible.
