There are caravan get-togethers… and then there are Retreat get-togethers.
From 3–9 August 2026, more than 35 Retreat caravans rolled into Finch Hatton for the Queensland Retreat Caravan Group’s week-long get-together — and once again, it proved that owning a Retreat is about so much more than where you travel.
It’s about the people you meet along the way.
For seven days, Retreat owners came together to catch up with old friends, welcome new faces, explore one of Queensland’s most beautiful regions and enjoy the kind of week that makes you remember exactly why you started caravanning in the first place.
A Huge Thank You to Barry and Sandy
Before anything else, a very special mention has to go to Barry and Sandy, who organised the Finch Hatton get-together and put an enormous amount of work into making the week such a success.
Bringing more than 35 caravans and their owners together for an entire week takes plenty of planning, coordination and commitment, and Barry and Sandy created a fantastic program that gave everyone the perfect balance of activities, sightseeing, meals and time to simply enjoy being together.
From coordinating the daily events to helping create the welcoming atmosphere that made the week so memorable, their contribution was a huge part of what made Finch Hatton such a special gathering.

Good Friends, Great Places and Plenty of Good Times
The week was packed with the perfect mix of organised activities and time to simply relax and enjoy each other’s company.
There were sausage sizzles, bacon and eggs breakfasts, trivia competitions, raffles, happy hours and plenty of time spent sitting around together sharing stories from the road.
One of the highlights was a tag-along trip through Eungella National Park, taking in the spectacular scenery before lunch at the historic Eungella Chalet.
Later in the week, the group headed to the Criterion Hotel and the local RSL for dinners, raffles and another opportunity to get everyone together.
But as anyone who has attended a Retreat rally or owners’ get-together knows, the best moments aren’t always the ones written on the program.
They’re the conversations between neighbouring vans.
The stories told over a drink at happy hour.
The laughs that carry on long after dinner.
And the friendships formed between people who may have arrived as strangers but leave already planning where they’ll meet again.
The Retreat Community Giving Back
The week wasn’t only about having a great time.
The Queensland Retreat Caravan Group also used the gathering as an opportunity to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, continuing the incredible spirit of generosity we see throughout the Retreat community.
Through raffles and activities across the week, Retreat owners came together to support an organisation that plays such an important role for people travelling, living and working throughout regional and remote Australia.
It’s something we’re incredibly proud to see.
Because the Retreat community has always been about looking out for one another — both within the group and throughout the communities we visit.
More Than Building Caravans
For 20 years, Retreat Caravans has been building caravans designed to help Australians explore further and create unforgettable experiences.
But gatherings like Finch Hatton remind us that somewhere along the way, something much bigger has been built.
A community.
A community of travellers who share advice, help each other on the road, explore new places together and form friendships that extend well beyond a week at a caravan park.
More than 35 Retreat vans lined up together at Finch Hatton was an incredible sight.
But the real story was everything happening between them.
The friendships.
The laughter.
The adventures.
The generosity.
And another collection of memories that will be talked about at Retreat get-togethers for years to come.
