For Jamie and Alice from The Wandering Westons, it started like so many Australians do.
With a tent.
“We started like every young person does… in tents.”
As their love of travel grew, so did their expectations.
Camping wasn’t just about getting away anymore. They wanted comfort, freedom and a caravan that truly suited the way they travelled.
That search eventually led them to a custom-built Retreat.
Building Their Dream Caravan
After owning a previous caravan, Jamie and Alice knew exactly what they wanted.
Alice refused to compromise on having a large rear club lounge.
Jamie had equally strong opinions.
“I wasn’t having a bathroom where I had to squeeze between the toilet and vanity every morning.”
Rather than settling for an existing layout, they worked with the team to create something uniquely theirs.
They combined features from multiple floorplans, customised the bathroom, retained the spacious kitchen and selected every finish throughout the caravan.
“The only way we were going to get what we wanted was with a custom-built Retreat.”
True Freedom to Customise
One of the biggest surprises for Jamie and Alice wasn’t just the ability to customise the layout.
It was the freedom to personalise virtually every detail.
“We weren’t restricted by anything.”
Unlike many manufacturers that only offer predetermined colour packages, they were able to choose exactly what suited their style.
“Right down to what colour nuts and bolts you want on your wheels.”
The experience wasn’t about choosing from a brochure.
It was about building a caravan that genuinely reflected how they wanted to travel.
Customer Service That Continued Throughout the Build
Building a custom caravan can be daunting, but Jamie and Alice say they never felt alone during the process.

Even late additions, including larger off-road tyres, were accommodated without hassle.
Putting Their Retreat to the Test
Since taking delivery in April 2025, they’ve travelled almost 10,000 kilometres across Western Australia’s spectacular coastline.
Their adventures have taken them to:

- Coral Bay
- Winderabandi
- Yardie Creek
- Tim’s Thicket
- Harvey Dam
- Wellington Dam
- Remote bush camps throughout Western Australia
Their favourite destination?
Camping just metres from the turquoise waters of Winderabandi.
“When you’re 20 metres from crystal blue water surrounded by sharks and rays… it doesn’t get much better.”
Built for Real Adventure
Their Retreat hasn’t lived an easy life.
It has crossed challenging creek crossings, travelled remote tracks and handled severe off-road articulation with confidence.
Even Jamie’s wine collection survived.
“I was worried the wine was going to smash… but the van handled it perfectly.”
Despite some extreme angles that had other travellers calling over the UHF radio, everything inside remained exactly where it should.
“Nothing falls out. The cupboards stay intact. Everything works exactly as it should.”
That’s exactly what an Australian-built off-road caravan should do.
Looking Towards Australia’s Endless Lap
Although they currently enjoy spontaneous weekend escapes, their dream is much bigger.
Sometimes they decide on Thursday afternoon to simply hook up and leave.
Other times they’re planning for the trip of a lifetime.
Their goal?
To hit the road full-time within the next 12 months before beginning their long-awaited lap of Australia.
And unlike many travellers, they’re in absolutely no rush.
“The country is way too vast to see in anything less than ten years.”
